3 weeks sugar free update + TIPS to stop sugar!

I'm sorry for the lack of posts these days, I have a health problem and my finals are just around the corner, so I didn't have a lot of time. But today I'm back with a 3 weeks sugar free update and a few tips to help you start the challenge.

First of all, I have to say that when I started, I really didn't know how long I was going to be able to stop sugar, and I hadn't set a date for the end of the challenge. Usually when I try to get fit or to loose weight, I'm really dedicated to it during a week of two, but afterwards I just get back into eating "normally".
This time, it was incredibly easy! Some people say that my face looks thinner, and I know that I've lost a little bit of weight. I'm really proud of me because I really stick to it and I replaced my chocolate snacks, sugary breakfast and unhealthy meals with healthy ingredients overall. I've accumulated a few tips that might help you if you want to give it a try!

1. Choose your path

There are several ways of stopping sugar. You can either stop it cold turkey as I did, or you can quit step by step

- Cold turkey:
Of course, doing it cold turkey is quicker but you really have to be dedicated to it. You need motivation and information. Try to tell your family and friends that you need their support. Find healthy ways of filling your stomach when you usually eat sugar.

- Step by step:
You need to remove, one by one, the sugary foods that your eat. If you drink soda, cut out all kind of sugary drinks. If you eat chocolate, cut out chocolate. Of course, you don't want to cut it out all at once! You want to build your healthy eating gradually. Replace chocolate with nuts or almonds, replace soda with water or tea, etc.

2. Replace your snacks

I think it's the most important part of the journey. You want to replace every sugary snacks that you eat with healthy foods.  Here are a few examples:

- Nuts, almonds
- Fruits (see the next tip)
- Tea or hot water
- Corn cakes (not rice cakes, they are high glycemic)
- Vegetables

3. Don't eat high glycemic fruits

I suggest to start the challenge with no fruits at all, and when you feel comfortable without sugar, eat low glycemic fruits again. It includes apples, cherries, grapefruits, straweberries, prunes, pears, etc. You can find low glycemic foods on google!

4. Know what types of food are high glycemic

Again, finding high glycemic foods on google is really easy, but here are a few of them:
- French baguette
- White bread
- Cornflakes
- Pumpkin
- Watermelon
- Dates
- Pineapples

Remember that if you really crave sugar, eating a high glycemic fruits or vegetable will not have the same impact on your body as chocolate or sugary snacks.

5. Start your day with a healthy breakfast

First of all, don't skip breakfast! If you eat a healthy breakfast, you'll be most likely to eat healthy during the whole day. Plus, you'll have more energy and you'll be less hungry during the day.
Also, eating the same thing every morning helps you to be full after breakfast. You'll feel "complete" after eating it, but if you change the ingredients of your meal, you'll end up wanting more and more..
I personnaly eat oat meal with milk and cinnamon. I also like to add half and apple. I drink plenty of water when I wake up.

6. If you crave sugar, remember why you started this

I remember thinking "oh, I could eat a piece of chocolate, it will do no harm" but as soon as I realised that I would have to start all over again, I chose an apple instead. It works really well, and I don't miss sugar at all. If feel healthier, and I enjoy fruits and nuts as much as chocolate and cupcakes.

I still have other tips, but it will be it for this post.

I hope you enjoyed learning more about healthy habits, leave a comment if you want to start this challenge!

Sugar free update!

Yesterday was my boyfriend's sister's birthday, so it was very hard to resist sugar cravings, but I did it! I ate some chips so I hope there was no sugar in it but at least I didn't touch really sugary things. It's still easy and I started to eat salty things in the morning. I ate toasted bread with a little bit of butter, salt and basil. It's a bit harder to stay focused on eating healthy since I'm not at home! Tonight my boyfriend is going to prepare pastas with a tomato sauce. So nice!

Have a nice day!

Sugar free update + knotted headband (pictures and pattern)

I'm so happy, already 5 days and still no sugar cravings. I feel less tired than usual and my taste buds are already improving. If I'm hungry I'll eat nuts or I'll drink a big glass of water. This week end I'm going to my boyfriend's sister's birthday and I hope I'm no going to crave sugar or bad foods. I decided that I'll probably eat chips but no sugar!

Apart from that, here is a beautiful knotted headband that I found on All About Ami's tumblr. Here is the pattern: click here

Here is a picture of my headband:

It's not really the season to wear that type of headband but it's raining so much here in Belgium that I tought it would still be useful.

Have a nice day!

Sugar Free

Today, I started a pretty interesting challenge: I'm going cold turkey on sugar! Yay!
I've learned so many things about sugar these past few weeks and I decided that I just should try to stop eating any type of sugary food.

Before I start telling more about this journey, here are some informative links about sugar:

Now that you're informed about the problem, here is how my first day's going:

Breakfast: oat meal with cinnamon and a glass of water
Snack: tomatoes with fresh basilic
Lunch: white pastas (I wish I could eat whole wheat pastas but my family doesn't like it)

At 4 I'll probably drink green tea to fill me up a little, and tonight no dessert!

So far I'm really proud of myself, it's only the first day but I'm not tempted at all. I've read that the first few days are the easiest. Some people say that the second week is harder, because it's when your body starts to react to the complete absence of sugar.

Here's how I plan to manage things:

First week (5/10 to 5/17): no sugar at all, not even fruits
Second week (5/18 to 5/25): still no sugar but I can add low glycemic fruits, such as apples.
Third week (5/26 to 6/2) same thing as the second week
Fourth week (6/3 to 6/10): I can restart drinking a small glass of fresh orange juice a day

By then:

- I should not be tempted by sugary food at all
- My taste buds will become more and more acute

I'm so excited to see the results! I'll keep you updated a few times a week!

Have a nice day!

Cute kitty (Pictures + pattern!)

Hi!

Today, I finished a crochet kitten. He's extra cute and I'm very proud of how it turned out. I was inspired by the pattern that you cand find HERE

Basically, I followed the pattern for the head, the body and the tail. I wanted my kitten to have long legs and small arms, so I had to change it a little.
If you like my version, you can crochet evenly a bit more for the legs and a bit less for the arms. I also changed the ears because I wanted them to be bigger. You juste have to increase for one more row and to crochet evenly a little bit more.
It took me a few hours and I loooooooooove it!

Here are the pictures of the kitten:

Little fuzzy bear (Pictures + Pattern!)

A few days ago I found a cute crochet pattern on All About Ami's tumblr. Here are some pictures of my results:

(You can see the pictures on my Flickr)

It's really easy and you can definitely make it if you're a beginner. I haven't made a lot of crocheted animals myself, but I find the result quite good!

To make it look fuzzy, you have to use any type of yarn except cotton! If you use cotton, it's not going to work.
Basically, what you do is that you take out the fibers in the yarn to make it all soft and fuzzy. In order to achieve that, you can use either a dog slicker brush or a round brush.

Feel free to send me some pictures of your teddy bear if you decide to make it!

Have a nice day!
